Audrey Hepburn was a British actress and humanitarian who was born on 4th of May 1929 in Brussel, Belgium. As a native of Brussels, Hepburn spent part of her youth in England at a boarding school. During the World War II, she studied at the Arnhem Conservatory in the Netherlands.


After the war, she continued to pursue her interest in dancing and moved to London. In 1948 she made her stage debut as a chorus girl in the Musical High Button Shoes London and later on began to make minor appearances in several films.She rose to stardom after playing the lead role in Roman Holiday , for which she was the first actress to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award , and a BAFTA Award for a single performance.

In 1954, Hepburn got married with Ferrer in Switzerland. Five years later, in 1959 her first son, named Sean was born.

For the rest of 1960's, Hepburn took a variety of roles.She starred with Cary Grant in the romantic thriller Charade. Playing the lead in the film version of the popular musical My Fair Lady, she went through one of the most famous metamorphoses of all time. And in 1967, she starred as a blind woman in the suspenseful tale Wait Until The Dark which brought her a fifth Academy Award nomination. That same year, she got divorced with her husband and later married an Italian psychiatrist, Andrea Dotti in 1969. The couple had a son, Luca.

In her later years, acting took a backseat to her work on behalf of children. She became a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF  in the late 1980s. Making more than 50 trips, Hepburn visited UNICEF projects in Asia, Africa, Central, and South America. She won a special academy award for her humanitarian work in 1993, bvut she did not live long enough to receive it. Hepburn passed away in January 20 ,1993, at her home in Tolochenaz, Switzerland after a battle with colon cancer.

Her work to help children around the world continues. Her sons, Sean and Luca, along with her companion, Robert Wolders, established the the Audrey Hepburn memorial  fund at UNICEF to continue Hepburn's humanitarian work.
